Posted by pamdent on July 10th, 2008

When you are looking at homes, there are some potential insurance red flags to look out for. These are items that may not necessarily prevent obtaining insurance but could make it harder to obtain or could result in higher premiums. Either way it helps to know of potential problems in advance before signing a contract.

The Foxfield Races - Steeplechasing in Charlottesville

Posted by pamdent on April 23rd, 2008

ph1292191712053642453-wince.jpgWhat’s your idea of the perfect Saturday? Is it enjoying a beautiful spring day outdoors in the Albemarle countryside? Is it hanging out with friends over a picnic lunch? Or perhaps it is the excitement of watching steeplechase racing at its finest. The Foxfield Races held on Saturday, April 26 in Charlottesville, Virginia delivers on all these levels.

The Foxfield race course is located on the former Foxfield Farm five miles outside of Charlottesville, Virginia in the heart of the Farmington Hunt Country. Foxfield was owned by Grover Vandevender who had the dream of holding a steeplechase race. After his death his friend Mariann Tejeda commissioned Raymond Woolfe, Jr. to design a race course and make that dream into a reality.

After a week of rain we are hoping for beautiful weather for Saturday’s races which go on rain or shine. The initial Foxfield race meet took place in May 1978. That day during the running of the races five inches of rain fell soaking 71 horses and 8,000 spectators. However, Raymie’s course held up and Foxfield has grown to host yearly spring and fall races, drawing some of the best horses in the country. Some patrons have had the same parking places since the first race meet and others are new to the sport, but all attend with enthusiasm.

Foxfield is a day of thrilling racing, tailgating with friends, and enjoying a spring day in Virginia. I can’t wait! Come out and see what it is all about.

For more information contact The Foxfield Racing Association

For additional information on steeplechasing in Virginia go to the Virginia SteepleChase Association website.

Happy Birthday Mr. Jefferson

Posted by pamdent on April 3rd, 2008

monticello-wince.jpgmonticello-wince.jpgAs you may know Charlottesville, Virginia is all about all things Jefferson - Thomas Jefferson that is. Jefferson was born 265 years ago just east of Charlottesville at Shadwell. His lovely home Monticello looks down on the city of Charlottesville. You can’t drive down Main Street without seeing the Rotunda, one of the origional buildings of the University of Virginia, locally known as Mr. Jefferson’s University after its’ founder Thomas Jefferson. So what would be a more fitting event to celebrate in Charlottesville than Thomas Jefferson’s birthday? The ceremony will be held on Sunday April 13 at 11:00 at Thomas Jefferson’s grave in the graveyard at Monticello. This is a free, public event and the Honorable Robert Grey former president of the American Bar Association will deliver this year’s address. This is an especially beautiful time of year to enjoy the grounds of Monticello and remember one of the founders of our country.
